i'm using this forum as my own little sandbox and diary - if you don't like it and aren't pink go away.

Earlier this week i resolved that i would play my "mana inefficient spec" - ie: a holy light build, with the extra points in prot instead of ret... for at least one month to ensure i wasn't clinging on something that needed to be clinged to. IE: Crit.

In theory, you lose a lot of mana regen from crit. In practice, it really wasn't a lot lost.

Tonight's Algalon kill - "mana inefficient spec"

Illumination   22919
Divine Plea   22904
Replenishment   19572
Innervate   7865
Mana Restore   6000
Soul of the Dead   5400
Restore   4203
Arcane Torrent   3926
Revitalize   3272
Seal of Wisdom   2618
Lay on Hands   1950
Judgement of Wisdom   176
Total mana gained: 100805

Algalon kill from 9/20:

Divine Plea    30708
Illumination   22536
Replenishment   18305
Seal of Wisdom   9828
Revitalize   6449
Soul of the Dead   6300
Arcane Torrent   5528
Mana Restore   4800
Restore   4350
Judgement of Wisdom   880
Total mana gained:  109684

Interestingly the illumination regens (the basis for arguement for ret tree vs: prot tree) are almost identical for the two kills.

More later i'm crafting up a spellpower set to test out FOL build. Smiley

I'm not pink, (and you may already be doing this) but take into account any gear changes you had between the two kills and how they might affect things.

i had a few very minor upgrades and regemmed some but it certainly wouldn't account for the 8% crit mana return that you get in ret vs: prot sub tree (raid wall).

The experiment was to see if i could deviate from my "safety" (crutch) of the mana regen in my ret sub spec and to see if i could manage the same output in a less mana efficient spec that offered a far greater benefit to the raid.

Raid wall just got nerfed into the ground so the whole thing is a moot point. I knew it would happen eventually but the day has finally come. Boo.

It is a sad thing to get raid wall nerfed. Even if you could see it coming. It couldn't save my pug tho!
