The PhysX drivers have been hit and miss with me.  I've been using nVidia GPUs for a while now mainly because of familiarity and comfort level with tweaking the hardware and software.  The most recent release of PhysX has been pretty stable.  I've seen some great performance boosts with GPUs that can take full advantage of these drivers.  I also have seen some crazy stuff happen over recent months with different releases from capped FPS to funky graphical artifacts, to having to disable the PhysX drivers altogether to get the video drivers to work.  As time goes by, though, its seems to be much more stable as this software can take advantage of more and more cards' and their potential.  I'll be curious with the huge influx of Win 7 End User installs next week how much of the nVidia software/driver components will be compatible and/or take advantage of any DX11 components.

I will say I've tested the RC1 on 8 different video cards (old legacy cards to brand new ones) with absolutely zero errors so far in any of those tests.  I was quite impressed knowing Windows OS's history of constantly playing catch up with very old and very new hardware (until a new service pack is released).

I am sure I will be fine. Since i'm on the full leak version of Windows 7. Been using it for couple of months now. Very stable. I am sure this Nvidia card will be stable too. Funny Newegg didn't put on the title that this card is a overclock version.. hmmmm I might still have to overclock it a bit more.. =D..

Worst case I might go back to Watercooling lol =D.

So, being a linux guy for most of my life, I never really bothered with intensive graphic games. So here's just an incredibly stupid question.

WoW doesn't use a single useful feature of nvidia cards does it? I'm sporting the GTX280, and in stuff like Fallen Earth, and AOC, the graphics were drop dead secksee, with massively insane fps, (in the 120-150 range). However, wow, who's graphics are a lot lower, I'm still not seeing those kind of numbers. And yes, in all three games, I had the settings cranked allllll the way up.

You would think with the lower graphics of WoW you'd be able to maintain 80+ fps, where in say AoC, I was pushing 120-140, with insanely amazing graphics.

WoW has 80 hojillion things going on in the background that most games don't - user scripts, network and positioning data for 1000s of players, etc.

Most of WoW isn't GPU bound, and your frames mostly depend on your memory and CPU (whereas most shooters are the opposite).

Makes sense. That was an early issue with FE, where it was drawing/figuring out stuff that you could not see, so didn't really need to mess with.

Still think I have something configured poorly for WoW. I'm sporting an Intel Core2 Quad @ 3ghz, with 4g of speedy ram, and I wind up with occasional 10fps, which is just friggen sad.

open area always drop down the FPS than a inside building in wow. Tho with max ultra setting with HD3870 I was getting 40-50fps. and in I.F. I get like 120-150fps.. weird.. I wonder what I will get for the gtx 275.

You heard nvidia partners is going to drop sales of 285, 275, and the 260. Once they all sold out they not going to restock them back. They going to wait for the next Nvidia card to come out LOL.

Several Nvidia partners have confirmed that they had to decide to cancel GTX 285 and GTX 275 based products, as availability was simply disastrous.

We still don’t now if this is Nvidia's strategy to keep the market hungry for Fermi or they simply didn't order enough wafers, but availability of GTX260, GTX275 and GTX285 was so bad that many decided to drop these products and wait for Fermi.

The lucky ones can sell Radeon HD 5870 and 5850, as they are selling good, but the 5870 is mainly on allocation and that doesn’t really help a lot.

The GT200 generation is slowly but surely running towards its retirement and if you want one, simply grab it while you still can, or get RV870 or Fermi when it comes out.

Yeah I knew this was on the horizon when the reports of their first bricks came back from test production. Which, to be honest is sad. ATI linux drivers have ALWAYS sucked donkey cock, and I don't look forward to having to dick with them in the future if nvidia decides to go balls up. The 280 should last me a year or so, and by then, we'll see what the new chips from Intel look like driver-wise for unix.

How good is dx10, is it having any effect on WoW? I'm still running a heavily modded version of xp, slim light and all the extraneous crap removed. Only reason I haven't upped to w7 is wondering how much a boost WoW will get from dx10. (If you haven't figured out by now, I ONLY run winblowz for WoW and nothing else.)

The thing is.... WoW is only writen on DX9 only. So, having DX11 on Windows 7 doesnt do anything much for wow. lol..

O and DX10 and DX10.1 isn't much stuff added in. Also same for DX11 isn't all that much added also. I say wait for DX12. Maybe then they will have some major change.

*grin*

You don't wanna know how long I've been running Ubuntu. freebsd before that. Red Hat before that.

I use Ubuntu as my primary OS, and only boot into windows for WoW. Although the nvidia drivers are getting to the point where I may not have too anymore.
