Hrm, I feel like I've seen this UI before...but where...?

How's leveling in Aion compare to WoW?  Is it faster, slower?  I'm probably going to give it a try when they come out with a 10 day trial.

I'm only level 10, but so far it's a little slower. The quests are all MMO-standards - Steal 10 grain sacks, kill 7 Iron Fur Farmers, deliver this Thing to This guy at New Place. The graphics, though, are just ... awesome.  Combat's a little different - chain skills are pretty cool.  Gearing is a little odd, too, but I'm getting the hang of it.

It's been fun so far. But again, only level 10, it could suck soon.

Oh, one other thing, the Elyos world looks a lot better than the Asmodiean world. I started with the Asmodieans because... I dunno. Just usually pick the "dark" side of MMO's. If you want to *really* see the graphics in this game going wild, then go Elyos.

Yeah, I played during the Beta, I was very interested in it until it began a traditional Kor.Grindfest feel (dunno if it changed any). I was saddened that I couldn't use the name Skuld, but all the names of the Norse fates are used in it. =^.^= Meow.

level 1 to 20 was a bit slow, but 20 to 29 for me went really fast... seems like it's starting to slow down a bit for me again now... think the majority of people on my server are around my level, the upper level ones are at maybe 35, some approaching 40. current level cap is 50 i believe. in 10 days you could get to 20 maybe?

How do you like the skill/attack chains?  My understanding that you attack with, for example, 1 and the next time you press 1, it'll be a different attack.  Kind of like how the MMO Spellborn worked.

It's kind of cool, but the cooldowns never line up the way you want. Like at a level 11 cleric, I have something of a Heroic Strike, that cna lead into a Revenge-Stun kind of attack. But the Revenge-Stun has a 25s cooldown, and the base attack has like a 5s CD, so yo ucan't chain it that often. My Smite has a 2s cast and a 1s cooldown, but the chain attack has no cast time and a 30s cooldown. Etc.

So, you get some cool openers and some cool stuns and things, but not that often. Yet. I'm still low level.

Hit 13 last night. The grindiness is setting in a little bit, but god damn these graphics are awesome. Still enjoying it.

Curse's open letter to Aion's devs.  Inline with what I've read in general.  Do you guys have the same experience / thoughts?  I'm would still give this game a try when the trial comes out.

1-20 was a relatively enjoyable experience since quests and quest rewards worked out well

20-25 was a terror of sitting and grinding in a mindless way... a kill might net you 5-10k xp, a quest turn in might bring you....3k xp and no item or money reward. There is literally no reason to do any quests in the 20-25 range, it is faster to just grind mobs.

25-29 goes really fast because you have access to the first "instance" but you can't enter it once you ding 29

29-31.... well this is where I currently am, it took me longer to go from 29 to 30 than it did from 25 to 29. I have pretty much run out of any quests to do except for stuff in the Abyss which is like a giant pvp map.
But level means EVERYTHING there. You can enter the Abyss at 25, so you'll see a bunch of 25's just getting demolished by a level 40. Even now when I go there at 31 if I come across a level 35 Sorcerer I might as well just lie down and let them have their way with me since they can oneshot me before I even come within melee range.
At this point I've pretty much stopped playing. The Abyss is pretty much unplayable and I have nothing else to do except grind kills for xp which is not what I consider a ton of fun.

I think Aion is doomed to falling apart from lack of tech support, there is thousands of complaints in the tech support forums and as far as I can tell there is nobody dealing with them. There are no GMs so nobody can really help you in game. The few communications we've gotten from the devs have been letters saying things like "Wow! We sold a lot of copies of Aion on opening day!"
That's super helpful in addressing the MAJOR problems the game has.
A lot of people try to give it a pass and say, "Oh well the game is only a month old there are bound to be problems."
Well.. It's not a month old, it's been out for a few years. I think they are about to lose my subcription. 1-20 was pretty fun but it's been all downhill from there.
