I didn't mention this, but I don't build machines, I let someone else do it for me.  When I swap out parts in my machine my wife (smartly) decides that that is a good time for her to leave the house.

I looked at tiger direct and their prebuilts didn't appear to be exactly what I wanted.  After many years of having minimal to no selection on cases, parts, etc I want to be able to pick exactly what I want and how it will look.  My wife on the other hand is getting a Dell laptop.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

I bought a new system from Cyberpower about 6 months ago that i've been very happy with. Everything was shipped quickly and arrived in working order, and I haven't had a single problem with it since. The only gripe I had was that the mouse was on back order, which they didn't mention until I opened the boxes and found a back order slip. It came a couple days later, but I don't think an email or something when the rest of the parts shipped would have been asking too much. A minor concern however, and I'm very satisfied overall.

That's cool also. It let us uber-geeks fight for a bit.

Newegg in-deed. FEH!  Cheesy

I'm a NewEgg guy.

Same here.  I've built many PCs from buying parts from NewEgg.

I use a combo of Tiger and Newegg, based on what deals there are for what I'm looking for.   I've had good experiences with both, after buying parts for ~4 PCs (built for friends too) and upgrades for my own.

I use these guys:

http://www.magicmicro.com/

I've bought two computers from them - 1 like 4 years ago and one in Feb. I couldn't be happier with the service and have told everyone that will listen how awesome they are.

You can start with a barebones kit and then add/customize whatever you need, keep the parts you don't want to replace (for instance, i'm still using my old HD with my old windows installation because i had purchased it less than a year ago).. best of all they put all the parts together before it leaves and you get all the components you picked ready to plug in, or just ready to add the HD to in my case. What i did was basically look up each component they offered on Newegg, got the customer service rating from there, (reliability, DOA, etc info) and picked each part based on that info.

The customer service absolutely cannot be rivaled. On the machine i bought 4 years ago, i decided to upgrade the vid card because i wanted more performance out of wow. I had lost my original invoice and wasn't sure what would be compatible (being lazy and not wanting to open the case) - so i e-mailed them asking if they could help at all. Not only did they reply within 24 hours they gave me a list of exactly what cards would work. Mind you this was 2 years after the initial purchase and i didn't purchase any sort of warranty.

You can customize literally everything right down to the case. There is no fee for the assembly and they are lightening fast - the system that i ordered in February was shipped within 48 hours of the initial order.

I love these guys and i don't think i'll ever buy another computer from anywhere else, ever.

I checked it out and the price is a little high, but close.  I'll keep it in mind for sure.  Service counts for alot imo.

Yea, i don't mind paying a little extra for the parts if it means i don't have to rage out when i just cut my hand trying to shove all the parts into some shittily designed case (or something similarly frustrating). Smiley

And yes, I've tried the Mac OS Hackintosh, and it barely works correctly. Unless you build a machine to have specific hardware that's compaitable with it, yer screwed. Of course, I could get completely silly and have Gnome looking like Aqua..but I like my current window layout.  Grin

So I play wow on my hackintosh and it runs beautifully.  However, I knew I was gonna try something like this so I got mac friendly hardware (which was pretty easy).  My only complaint is that the installation procedure (if you want to do a retail install) is a bit annoying (ohh and I have never been able to get my sound to work, have to use usb).

I just got Windows 7 (yeah yeah Thom) and am gonna try it out pretty soon.  I am curious to see if there is a performance difference in wow.

an update, I purchased from magicMicro.com and am very happy.  competitive prices compared to ibuypower and cyberpower (much better than alienware), huge selections and 8 business days after I ordered it I had it in my hands.
