My computer is hitting its five year mark and I am going to start shopping.

Problem I am having deciding is I like Mac's OS and the ability to make my day to day job really easy or Windows 7 which has proven itself to be a very good OS.

I was thinking this beast for apple:
http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB535LL/A?mco=MTM3NDc3NjI
with a quadcore 16GB of ram and 4 512GB gt 120 nvidia video cards

If I were on the Windows side which company would you guys go with?

Ero's suggestion of Magic Micro was a good one.

If you can afford this monster then...wow...well it really doesn't matter.  You will end up with a killer in the end regardless.  I look forward to seeing your decision.

Turns out that the motherboard for the Mac Pro cannot do SLi linking which is completely stupid of Apple.  The only reason they have 4 cards in there is for 4 large screen displays and processing video encoding.  So for the alienware wins out I think.

Fal you cursed me you *(&$head!!!

I came home and my computer is making this crazy noise like a piece of plastic caught in a vacuum cleaner. I pop it open - somehow the fan on my video card has become out of level and it's scraping against the heatsinks when it spins.  More than likely i caused this myself by 1 - leaving it on while i was at my inlaws for christmas and 2 - stupidly leaving it slightly on top of the metal thingy of my desk so the tower was slightly tilted the whole time i was away. Still, it's funny that you were bitching *specifically* about something like a fan breaking when you go with self-built systems and i was all BLAHBLAHBLAH FANS DONT MATTER.

u wouldn't need to.  the 295s are dual gpu cards.  Nvidia SLI only supports up to 4 or Quad SLI.  so you're running at the max settings for now...in terms of SLI.  the only other thing you could do would be to run a dedicated PhysX card.  which would be a 9800 GT would easily suffice that area.

So very sad today.  It looks like one of my graphics cards on my current system blew up and causes my computer to freeze every time I run wow.  Looks like I will have to remove that one as it is in the primary slot and just play with one for now.  I hope the slot isn't bad.

They tell me Tuesday it will be here.  Cry
