Currently I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop, of late I have been having one hell of a time running WoW, to the point of me punching a hole in the wall next to my desk last night while raiding cause trying to tank Sindragosa P3 at 5 seconds per frame is just impossible.

When I encountered a similiar problem a few months ago, I vacuumed out all my exhaust areas, and the fan too. And it really helped, over the next 4 months I have increasingly vacuumed it to the point where I Was doing it every other day about 2 weeks ago. But now it seems that this has no effect whatsoever. Earlier this week I went and purchased a laptop airflow thingy. And still my raiding fps is horrible.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M Video Card, and a Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo Processor. I consistently see my video card spike over 90 degrees celcius while raiding and usually sits at high 70s when just in WoW, in areas like Dalaran itll go up to 81-83.

I really have no computer knowledge when it comes to this stuff, and its become basically unbearable for me to raid, let alone raid lead my run. Any and all suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Windstrom threw a Battle Rez while tanking the Lich King last Friday. I don't mean like "While the OT taunted off him", I mean he battle rez'd the OT in between getting hit by Frostmourne. As fun as it was to watch, I don't know that I'd want him to do that again. -Furball

First problem is that it's a laptop.

Can you give the specifications of your computer? RAM, CPU speed, GPU speed, GPU memory. etc. etc.

I know my local Best Buy has these laptop stand/fan combo things you can get that basically just blow cool air across the bottom of your laptop. Might be worth a look, if it's just temperature related. (Not that I know for sure)

I did a little research on your laptop and it seems that a really common problem is having a fan that is either burned out or underperforming. So check if it is still working and if it is here are some programs you can use to spped up your fans.

speedfan: download.cnet.com/SpeedFan/3000-2094_4-10067444.html

rivatuner: downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163  (kinda outdated so I don't recommend it)

Yeah this is what I use on an old laptop of mine and it works wonders, also using a household vacuum cleaner to clean the dust out isn't a great idea :x especially if you’re using one of them gigantic Hoover vacuums.

Running Vista. Didnt use a strong vac, and kept it about in inch off the vents to not put too much pressure on anything inside.

How much memory do you have?  I forgot the name of the windows monitor that shows you cpu usage, memory usage, etc.  But you can run wow and take a look.  If you get close to using all of your ram then that could be the problem.  When you hit that cap your performance will drop to shit.  Thankfully, ram is one of the easier/cheaper things to upgrade.

This should be your laptops specifications. Depending on when you bought it it could be different.

2.53-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9400
3GB RAM
400GB 7,200 RPM HD
GeForce 9600M GT 512MB

From those specs there is no reason you should be experienceing what you are so it must be a heating issue. Check the fan and let me know if it's working or use speedfan to check the CPU fan RPM. Should be between 1000-2000

When I run speedfan, it doesnt detect my fan, but it's clearly running, I can feel it spinning, and the exhaust is being pushed out. Dont know what that means?

im also going to agree with DJ about a cooling pad.  they do wonders.  tala's laptop used to be like that as well.
