If you're running Vista/Windows 7, turn off transparency, or better yet don't use Aero themes. I know it sounds silly, but it makes a difference if you run in windowed mode.
Hrm. Will give that a shot for the next Lich King run. Although, since I've replaced my power supply things have been running a bit smoother (new one has dedicated 6-pin connection for the vid card. I'm guessing either that or there just was never enough wattage on the old one to begin with).
So I've never DC'd or lagged (except server side) since I've gotten my new computer, even with all my video/effects settings maxed out, but last week my fps shot done to about 3 on just Princes and Dreamwalker. I chalked that up to random patch problems, but this week, same exact thing happened on just those 2 fights.
When we got to Halion, same thing started happening so I turned off all effects and put all settings to minimum but to no avail. Any ideas (fixes?) why it would be fine all other times and horrible on just those three fights? I can understand how they might be a bit more graphics intensive fights, but they can't be that much more on minimum then the others are maxed out.
Aes, I can't recall; last night when you disabled your mods for Dreamwalker, did it help at all? If no, perhaps we can find something else in the game (probably something northrend, maybe in a 5-man somewhere) that has those same Orb graphics that all those fights use. I am taking a stab that maybe it's that since every fight you described the issue with (Dreamwalker, Princes, Halion) have those orbs.
On Halion, was it only inside the shadow realm? If in the Fire realm as well, did it only happen every so often, like possibly when he summoned his giant orb-meteor?
If we can narrow it down, perhaps a repair/reinstall would fix it. Assuming it is something with the game itself.
[Edit: another good check to see if it's the orbs: on Dreamwalker, does it only happen when she summons her portals? Cause I believe the initial portal summoning is the orb graphic. That, or possibly the clouds inside, though I haven't seen those much]
