I realize this may be too nerdy or geeky for most. Recently, there's been a lot of discussion about DNS servers about the tech world. As there is huge competition between web browsing companies to attempt to produce the fastest, most efficient browsers possible, tweaking other aspects of how we search the internet has come under the microscope as well. Admittedly we are speaking about seconds and split seconds of "saved time" here, but I guess it all adds up if you are one of those "proficiency nazis".
Google has recently released their
own public DNS server to the world claiming it's faster and more secure than other domains for the public to use as their secure public domain resolution site. I've swapped my DNS to Google's a couple weeks ago and haven't noticed any perceivable difference in speed.
Additionally, if you really want to tweak out your DNS settings, and get real world benchmarking for DNS resolution, you can download a
DNS Speed Benchmarking program from GRC here which is extremely thorough and detailed.
