I got low experience on DK tanking (very experienced on Paladin tanking) Ive been recruited by a guild that does 10 men hard modes and they want me as tank.

My current dps speec is deep frost IT spamming, my tanking one is blood ... but i dont feel very confortable with it cause they are diff talent trees the rotations are very diff and all that.

I would appreciate some advice about what tanking specc is nowadays rulling the hard modes (i think its blood) and how is it the threat on frost tanking speccs. (still havent tanked for them and i want to give them a good feeling about my skills)

What tanking builds are recommended? any good frost build for single target tanking?

Thanks in advance

Going to give a personal hint not a directly build tho :p, I'd say Unholy is the way to go, most tps imo and easiest.
Elitistjerks have some pure fact on different tanking builds for unholy.

Well, I will take my shot at advice.  I am not the world's greatest tank but being a tank nowadays is not a huge deal.

Anyway....

The most obvious thing to do is take all the Tier 1 tanking talents and then pick a tree after that.  You want to balance DPS talents for TPS with Tanking talents.  Blood has the advantage of extra health, Frost of more passive tanking talents, and Unholy is the anti-magic tank (with pre-3.2 UB excellent for AE tanking).

I have tanked as Frost and had no issues with threat.  One mechanism that can be very useful is to put a point in DeathChill and use that with an Howling Blast to pull.  Should give pretty effective AE threat to start.  If you Glyph HB, you get AE Frost Fever going.

Blood has the advantage of the extra health and the downside of AE issues.  That is not horrible on most boss encounters but basically D&D is your AE and that eats lots of runes.

Right now the "EH" (enhanced health) tank is the way to go, especially as the way to get started on an encounter.  That would be a Blood Tank (Veteran of the 3rd War + Vampiric Blood).  Given that you want to get Vampiric Blood and probably Improved Death Strike, the only question is do you go much deeper in Blood (Blood Gorged for example makes little sense).  3/3 Morbidity will probably be required (to get the cooldown reduction on D&D).  How many self-healing talents is up to you.

If you look at my profile right now, I am running a high self healing build for pvp.  I use this build to tank with as well, and one could easily optimize it more greatly for that.

Our 10-man raid´s got 3 Tanks (2 warriors, 1 pally) and usualy I only have to tank, when two of them are missing. In this case I chose my specc depending on the other present tank. I go unholy for aoe threat if a warri is tankin and blood for singletarget if the pally is with us.

For bosses I run something like this. There are still some points you can move around in blood depending on your preferences (blood gorged, dudden doom, imp. runetap...). Building threat was never a real issue, whichever build i chose.

I've been trying out tanking some 10man hard modes with blood. It is king of living through gimicky things like plasma blast, fusion punch and the like. It's threat is dependant on sunder armor or the like being up though.

From my research in picking a tank spec. Threat wise Blood is king with the right debuffs up, frost is second and most all around and unholy's TPS is actually rather low. These things can of course be adjusted with glyphs and gear. That is not to say that you will be unable to hold threat with any of them but you will certainly be more worried about it on unholy.

My armory has my spec, but I believe I am in DPS gear currently. Also both spec's are blood so youll have to use common sense to figure out which is which.

Well finally i went frost, we tried mimiron 10 man hardmode ...  my guild has already completed all the hard modes on 10 man ... and only me a 1 lock were new to the encounter ... i have to say that i weren't able to soak all the damage, basically coulnt survive the lower part (tank), even waiting for the red beam to tick 2 times before using the coldowns etc ....

my stats are 29.9k health 544 defense and around 16-18% (cant remember) on both dodge and parry, so my tanking gear isn't bad. i think i need around 3 - 4 k more health to do this ... how are u guys doing? again is maybe blood (because of all the oh shit buttons) better for hard modes?
The treat wasnt a problem but the survivability was

29k seems a bit on the low end for trying to tank hard modes unfortunately :<  Our DK tank is about 44k raid buffed in threat set. 46k in survivability set.

Your stats really are a bit low :/
Just by switching to tank gear and FP I get 32k health and 22% dodge / 18% parry. Add another 5% dodge from anticipation when skilled for it.

You could try a blood specc. It´s self healing helps a lot. But like Hymn stated: you have to get the right debuffs on the boss to make it work.

Thats what i wanted to hear honestly ... cause else would have been my skills :-)

Well the good part is that most of the tanking (pieces without blocks that is) are gona end on my bags. So i see me soon better geared.

Thanks again.
