http://www.snakebyte-europe.com/en/products/pc/final-fantasyR-xiv-controller/

Got this cheap (half off) for $19 at Buy.com last week.  Because Microsoft and Sony don't play well together, Playstation 2 and 3 controllers won't automatically work on a Windows box.  You actually have to download and use a 3rd party security certificate to get this work -- which you have to disable certification enforcement in Windows to use (requiring a restart each time).  This method is ridiculous.  This was a great solution for me by getting a quality PS2 controller clone that works with Windows and isn't one that I'll trash in a day or two if I accidentally drop it like other cheap 3rd party knockoff Playstation controllers I've used.  The good and bad part about this controller is that it's wired BUT it is on a 9ft. cord -- plenty of length to anywhere.

More importantly, my point in this post is that it really points to Square Enix pushing for their FFXVI product to be a Playstation port 1st and a PC port 2nd.  The quirky mechanics of moving in the game as I and others described in the FF14 thread really gave us the impression that the game on the PC was meant to be played with a controller and the game UI was built for the controller a la FF11.  The release of this controller cements this fact in my mind that in fact Square Enix intended FF14 to be exclusively for its PS3 audience and really had no care whether the PC port of the game was successful or user friendly.

If you grew up with Playstations and not Xboxs like I did, and still enjoy the feel of playing controller/console games with the slimmer PS controller, I'd suggest giving this a try when you can find it at a discount.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... whoa.

... are you actually playing FFXIV?

... and if so, is the fishing class any good? :3

[edit: that controller looks fricken awesome. I might end up getting one for other games even, cause I really love how the ps controller feels. And yeah, it definitely came off as the exact same crap that they pulled with 11, which really makes me wonder why they even bothered with the PC version before the ps3 version in the first place. Who knows, maybe by the time they finally end up releasing the PS3 version there'll be more incentive for me to try it. As per my comment above, I'm actually rather curious about the crafting classes. But, I got my hopes up for the game before. Not holding my breath this time. Maybe that'll result in a pleasant surprise from Square, lol.]

No of course I'm not playing it.  The controller is just "branded" with the FFXVI logo.  Aside from that, it's just a Playstation controller that actually works on a Windows box.
