This is mainly for Naz as we have the same processors, almost the same mobos, and have been talking about overclocking them lately.  With my current set up, I was able to overclock my i7 920 from 2.66 ghz to 4.06 ghz.  When running prime95 my temps hit high 70c- low 80c, but I keep my fans at 75% of their top speed.  I could probably bring down the temps a bit more if I cranked them all the way up, but they are loud as hell.
- This is the guide I used.
- I use a Prolimatech Megahalem heatsink
- I use two of these fans. One is strapped to the heatsink while the other is attached to the back of the case, right behind the heatsink, sucking out all of the exhaust.

At some point I might over clocking even more with my fans all the way cranked up.  I would like to see how high I can go and stay under 85c running prime95.

So, I had turned off some bios features for the sake of over clocking.  One of them was a turbo setting.  Now that it is back on I am sitting at 4.2 ghz, with all of the same temps holding.

Critical temp for those cores is 100°C.  What is the revision on your 920 btw?  I'm guessing because you hit such a high number, you have the D0.

Some 920s OC around the web (click on pics for links):

Naz, you might not need a fan controller.  Google your mobo +  speedfan.  Hopefully it will bring up which fans on your mobo the speedfan software can control.  Mine had 2, which was perfect.  Also, if you buy beastly 120mm fans, make sure they are not too thick.  The ones I posted were difficult to attach to the heatsink (though I got it).

I'd be looking at two of those making me have 4 fans total. I'll look into the software but I'd love to be able to adjust by using an actual button rather than voltage settings

I don't even know what a CFM is, however 10 dollars is dirt cheap and that's awesome.

I use this:
Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018
Airflow: 64.96 CFM (NF-P14) / 54.36 CFM (NF-P12)
Acoustical Noise: 19.6 dB(A)(NF-P14)/ 19.8 dB(A) (NF-P12)
I didn't use the (U.L.N.A.)lower level power for the fan. I just have it max speed.

PCMark Vent:

I heard:
CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010&cm_re=H50-_-35-181-010-_-Product
Does a great job too. Just get another 120mm fan for it.

Also, the Thermal Compound that I use:
ARCTIC COOLING MX-4 Thermal Compound - ARCTIC MX-4
http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=FAN-MX4&title=ARCTIC-COOLING-MX-4-Thermal-Compound

It is always best to go around price checking.
